A Secretaria Municipal de Esportes tem a função de promover, coordenar, orientar e executar as atividades relativas ao desporto. Fica a cargo ainda, apoiar e desenvolver a educação física, assim como eventos inerentes ao esporte: campeonatos, torneiros, competições e encontros de interesse público.

Pode ainda promover atividades relativas ao calendário e programas esportivos, visando as práticas e expansão do potencial esportivo existente.
